Pyrotechnic Magnesium

Pyrotechnic magnesium is a highly reactive, silvery-white metal fuel used to produce brilliant white light, intense heat, and sparks in fireworks, flares, and special-effect compositions. Its fast-burning and high-temperature properties make it essential for illumination and visual effects.

Key Details:

Chemical Formula: Mg (commonly used as powder or flakes)

Description: A lightweight, silvery-white alkaline earth metal that ignites easily and burns with a dazzling white light. It is highly reactive and functions primarily as a fuel in energetic mixtures.

Primary Uses:

  • Flares & Signals: Widely used in marine and emergency flares due to its intense and reliable light output.
  • Fireworks: Produces bright white flashes and sparkling effects in star compositions.
  • Flash Powders: Utilized in theatrical, photographic, and military flash and smoke devices.
  • Combustion Enhancer: Increases the burning temperature and intensity of pyrotechnic mixtures.

For improved stability and handling, magnesium is often alloyed with aluminum to form magnalium, which is commonly preferred in many pyrotechnic applications.
