NGARM Full Rocket Motor

The NGARM (New Generation Anti-Radiation Missile) Full Rocket Motor is a dual-pulse solid propellant system developed for India’s Rudram-1 missile. It employs an aluminized composite propellant to provide high-speed thrust, enabling precise air-to-ground, anti-radiation missions against enemy radar and surveillance systems.

Chemical Composition & Formula:

The motor uses an aluminized composite propellant. While exact formulations are proprietary, typical components include:

  • Oxidizer: Ammonium Perchlorate (NH4ClO4).
  • Fuel: Aluminum (Al) powder.
  • Binder: Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) or similar polymer.

Description:

The NGARM motor features a dual-pulse design with two separate burning chambers feeding a single central nozzle. The first pulse uses a fin-o-cyl shaped grain for initial boost, while the second pulse uses a star-shaped grain for high-burn-rate acceleration, allowing for flexible, controlled flight and rapid maneuvering against radar and air-defense targets.

Use:

  • Exclusively used in the Rudram-1 missile for Suppression/Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD/DEAD) missions.
  • Targets enemy radar systems, transmitters, and surveillance installations.
  • Provides high-speed maneuverability and controlled thrust during mission profiles.
